Classroom Course
No dates currently available
Course Registration Request
This course provides an overview of the technical layout and operational principles of Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems ( A-SMGCS).
The key components of an A-SMGCS and their characteristics as well as the resulting implications for implementation and operation are discussed in detail. Additionally, practical experience gathered from actual implementation is shared wherever possible, in order to allow those intending to implement a system to make informed decisions based on in-service experience.
Other topics covered include procurement issues, the specification of performance requirements and the monitoring of in-service performance. The course concludes with an overview of current research and possible future developments.
Important Note
This course will be delivered only in the second semester 2017 and the first semester 2018. After that, it will be replaced by a new course focussing on the deployment of the A-SMGCS-services developed by SESAR (ASMGCS-DPL).

If you need to acquire the knowledge how to implement the basic A-SMGCS functionalities, we recommend to attend one of the two remaining ASMGCS-IMP courses.
After completing the course, participants will have an understanding of the practical issues that need to be considered when implementing an A-SMGCS. In particular, the benefits provided by specifying an accurate operational requirement, taking account of the needs of all users of the A-SMGCS will be appreciated, as will the technical challenges and limitations of available systems.
In addition, the course will provide participants with a selection of business and safety arguments which can be used for justifying the implementation of an A-SMGCS  at an airport.
This course is designed for a wide variety of participants. It will be of particular interest to project managers and operational managers with responsibility for implementing an A-SMGCS. It will also be of interest to managers from airport operators, aircraft operators, handling agents and regulatory agencies.
Certificate awarded
All candidates will receive a certificate of attendance.
