Towards Voice over IP in Aeronautical Communications [COM-VOICE]
Classroom CourseCourse further information
Ground-Ground and Air-Ground voice communications are a key component of ATM service provision. This course provides a detailed view of the principles of aeronautical telephony and radio networks. After a review of the analogue and digital signalling techniques used in aviation (MFC-R2 and ATS-QSIG), the course largely focuses on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and looks in detail at VoIP principles and its use in aeronautical communications for fixed and mobile voice communication. The standardisation work of EUROCAE WG 67 is reviewed in detail, and the question of integrating VoIP into the ATM network architecture is discussed. The benefits of using VoIP are highlighted, together with other aspects such as security and ICAO, EUROCONTROL and SESAR strategic plans and developments.
An outlook on futuristic concepts addressed in SESAR, such as sectorless operations and digital air/ground voice, are also included.
