  Practical exercises
The DEMETER Advanced training, with a duration of 3 days, is designed for users who have followed the Introductory DEMETER course [NAV-DEM-INTRO] and for experienced DEMETER users. The Advanced course will start with a PBN overview and a discussion on GNSS, its vulnerabilities and the role of terrestrial aids in GNSS reversion. The navigation infrastructure assessment process is explained based on ICAO and Eurocontrol Guidance Material, including how this process interfaces with other actors required for PBN implementation. Following this discussion, the participants will be shown how to use DEMETER for infrastructure assessment and optimization through the use of  ‘hands on’ exercises. This will include the set up and configuration of DEMETER (navaid and terrain databases), facility coverage, area RNAV performance and procedure-specific RNAV performance assessments. All the various tool functionality, including flight inspection data interfaces and the navaids siting tool, will also be explained and demonstrated. On the last day the participants will be given the possibility to use DEMETER in a complex exercise for identifying potential solutions for the infrastructure optimization in a given environment.
Participants must have followed NAV-DEM-INTRO or must be experienced users of the DEMETER tool, using it in the course of their daily work and fully understand the functionality of the software. Participants will have their understanding of the tool functionality tested during the first exercise of NAV-DEM-ADV course and participants should note that the course schedule will not be changed to accommodate participants not displaying an appropriate level of competency with the tool.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops with the DEMETER Software installed.
Important Note
This specific tools course is designed to support navigation infrastructure planners and technical experts. The DEMETER training is in two parts and explains how to use DEMETER tool for infrastructure assessment and optimisation and includes practical exercises
This course aims to give an overview on the navigation infrastructure role in supporting PBN and  ‘hands on’ experience in using the DEMETER software for infrastructure assessment and planning and to provide answers to any questions the participants may have. This DEMETER training will prepare the participant to support his/her State when terrestrial infrastructure optimisation is required in view of PBN implementation.
This course takes place over 3 days.
The DEMETER course is designed specifically for navigation infrastructure experts, flight inspectors, procedure designers and airspace designers who have previous experience working with the DEMETER tool.  Participants who do not have a good level of understanding of the DEMETER functionality should first follow the DEMETER Introductory course.  This course is not recommended for anyone who does not work on terrestrial navigation aids assessment and planning.
