Classroom Course
This module provides a basic foundation for understanding how an ATM system operates in terms of provision of air traffic services. The objectives offer an insight into the way that the ATC service is organised (based on ICAO Doc 4444 PANS-ATM) and how airspace and airports are organised ( ICAO Annex 11 Air Traffic Services). The different phases of flight, means of communication and coordination and the main equipment used in carrying out ATC tasks are also addressed. A practical appreciation of the air traffic controller’s tasks is provided through a simulator exercise. The significance of meteorology and aeronautical information services is also examined.
