A key objective of the Single European Sky (SES) regulations is to improve ATM performance by reducing the fragmentation of airspace, organisations and systems. The increased integration of airspace and the harmonisation of service provision will require improvements to the interoperability of equipment, systems and procedures of the European air traffic management network (EATMN). The primary objective of the Interoperability Regulation is to achieve interoperability between the various systems, components and related procedures of the EATMN. The relevant EU legislation provides for a three-layered approach to this objective: - a first layer of high-level essential requirements; - to be refined as necessary into a second layer of binding implementing rules for key elements of interoperability; and - a third layer, in support of the second layer, of voluntary standards referred to as "Community specifications". This course is designed for staff working for the National Supervisory Authorities (NSA), Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP) and industry who are following the course to acquire awareness of SES interoperability and the necessary ANSP – NSA interactions. The processes required by the SES Interoperability Regulation (EC 552/2004 as amended by the SES II Regulation EC 1070/2009) are complex and also interact with other responsibilities under EU law.
It is recommended that as a minimum, course participants should follow the introduction to SES course.
After completing the course: - participants should be able to understand the relevant regulations for SES interoperability, the composition of the conformity process, and the necessary actions to achieve and demonstrate compliance to the regulations; -participants from an NSA should be able to assist in the supervision of interoperability in accordance with the processes required by the interoperability regulation; -participants from an ANSP/manufacture should be able to understand the necessary ANSP-NSA interoperability interactions.
This course is designed for staff working for the NSA, ANSP and industry who are following the course to acquire awareness of SES interoperability and the necessary ANSP – NSA interactions
Candidates passing the examination will receive a certificate of accomplishment. Other candidates will receive a certificate of attendance.
