Handover Takeover [ATC-R-HDVR] (Direct Access)

Web-based training 30 Mar 2020 11:07
The handover and takeover process in an ATC operational environment is a routine but safety critical activity that should be carried out completely and correctly. Surveys of incidents that occurred within 10 minutes of a handover/takeover taking place have shown that the quality and correctness of the handover was frequently a contributory factor to the incident.

Through a series of highly interactive scenarios and exercises, this course highlights why handover/takeovers are important, why they sometime go wrong and how they can be prevented from going wrong. The course concludes with a description of effective handover takeover and the roles that different actors play in this activity. A set of suggested checklists are also provided.

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
  • Explain why handover/takeover procedures are important
  • Explain the link between incidents and poor handover/takeover actions
  • Identify actions that contribute to poor handover/takeovers
  • Describe how to mitigate the risks associated with handover/takeover
  • Explain the elements of a good handover/takeover
  • Explain the roles of the various operational personnel during a handover/takeover
  • Explain the benefit of a checklist during handover/takeover
